Kennon and Kira Gilson are here congratulated at the Pinellas LP/ Tampa Libertarian Club Dinner on their appointment as youth advisors by the Pinellas County Commission: Pinellas now has over a third of the Libertarians in public office in Florida, following a strategy of initial focus on low-level appointive boards and multiple positions to develop a team, expertise, and track record. The dinner welcomed a member of the Peruvian Libertarians and got a briefing from Democratic Party participants on common successes in election reform...Also in Pinellas, T. Clark has joined a local Postal Council and pledged as a Libertarian with the LIO...Despite reported closing of the local Polk LP affiliate, with over 61 percent of the vote Jamie Beckett, a local Libertarian, was elected for City Commissioner Seat 4 of Winter Haven. This brings to 4 the number of recent city council or mayoral level Libs in Florida: Cooper City(Broward) #1 City Commissioner, John Sims ( http://www.johnbsims.com with water usage calculator) and is presently campaigning to cut high costs (http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/broward/cooper-city/sfl-cooper-budget-091609,0,1607592.story ) ; Mayor of New Port Richey (Pasco), Scott McPherson; Loxahatchee Groves, Council Seat #1 (Palm Beach) David Autrey (whose term finished in March). In addition, Libs are on a growing number of County level Soil & Water Boards...LPF Co-Founder MG has learned he's a finalist for a "Most Active Citizen in Florida" award...Club participants are meeting to discuss helping the Medical Marihuana Initiative (Sign the petition at left)...
